Description:
Health Reports is a quarterly journal produced by the Health Statistics Division at Statistics Canada. Comprehensive articles examine the health status of the population and Canada's health care system. It is designed for a broad audience that includes health professionals, researchers, policy-makers, educators, and students. The journal publishes articles of wide interest that contain original and timely analyses of health and vital statistics data. The sources are typically national or provincial/territorial administrative data bases or surveys. Research articles present in-depth analysis and undergo anonymous peer review. New articles are published electronically each month and appear in print form, quarterly. You can order individual print issues, or register a one-year subscription for future releases. Beginning with the March 2008 issue, Statistics Canada increased the print issue price from $22.00 to $24.00, and increased the subscription price from $63.00 to $68.00 (applicable shipping and tax extra). Subscribers to the print edition of Health Reports will also receive the annual supplement entitled How Healthy Are Canadians.

  • "Waiting time for medical specialist consultations in Canada, 2007" examines associations between patient- and provider-related factors and the length of time patients wait to consult a specialist about a new illness or condition.
  • "Blood pressure in Canadian children and adolescents" presents blood pressure distributions and estimates of elevated blood pressure for a representative sample of Canadian children and adolescents aged 6 to 19 years.
  • "Using population data to measure outcomes of care: The case of hip and knee replacements" investigates health outcomes of patients who underwent hip or knee replacement surgery.
  • "Weight gain during pregnancy: Adherence to Health Canada's guidelines" describes Canadian women's adherence to Health Canada's 1999 gestational weight guidelines, by selected socio-demographic and maternity characteristics of the mother.
  • "The Manitoba Human Papillomavirus vaccine surveillance and evaluation system" describes specific aspects of the human papillomavirus surveillance and evaluation system that is being implemented in Manitoba.
  • "Evaluating the hyperactivity/inattention subscale of the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth" evaluates the parent-reported Hyperactivity/Inattention Subscale of the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth with data from cycle 1 (1994/1995) of the survey.
